Five Fast Winter Driving Tips (CLEAN THE ICE OFF YOUR CAR!)

While it doesn’t appear that the Lehigh Valley will experience a white Christmas this year, we all know that snowy weather is always just around the corner.

The Lehigh Valley routinely gets at least one or two solid winter events per year, and we wouldn’t be against that happening again in 2017.

Here are a few tips to keep you and your family safe when driving in winter weather.

Change Your Attitude: One of the most important things to remember is that snow and freezing rain and ice completely change the way your car handles, stops, moves, and accelerates. Change the way in which you approach driving as a whole, because it’s different now. Know Your Brakes: If you’re able to, do a little test with your brakes to see how they respond in the snow before you set out to your destination. Having a better understanding of how they are stopping in the snow compared to how you regularly feel them stopping can be key. Don’t stop going up a hill: If you’re encountering a hill, the best course of action is to keep a steady, comfortable speed and to not stop. Remove ALL of the Ice and Snow from Your Car: Don’t be that guy. It’s not okay to leave ice and/or snow on your car. In fact, it can be potentially deadly to other drivers. Don’t be lazy. There is no excuse. Stay Home: The best way to drive in the snow is to not drive in the snow. Unless you have to go out, consider staying home.
